What is a processing speed test and what does it measure?
Processing speed is how quickly you carry out simple, well-defined cognitive work once you know the rule. This page uses the classic symbol-digit substitution paradigm — a coding key pairs six glyphs with six station numbers, and you apply that key over and over as fast as you can. The same family of task drives the Digit Symbol and Coding subtests used in standard cognitive batteries. Your throughput — how many substitutions you clear in sixty seconds, and how fast each keypress lands — is the measure.
How is the score calculated?
You get sixty seconds. The key stays on screen the whole time; the feed shows one glyph at a time and you key its station number from the key. The headline number is throughput — how many correct substitutions you file in the window. Accuracy adjusts the rating: a fast run paid for with miskeys is worth less than a clean one, and the page also reports your median keying time in milliseconds.
Is this a real cognitive or medical assessment?
No. It is a game. The rating is a game score for entertainment — it does not measure intelligence, diagnose anything, or stand in for any professional assessment.
